YWAM CALBAYOG SAMAR Update

YWAM CALBAYOG SAMAR Update

Good day! May God’s grace be upon you always!

It was 2003 when the Lord sent a group of young people led by Jesamin “Bebing” Gurapo to the island of Samar. It is the 3rd largest island in the Philippines yet one of the poorest provinces in the country. It is the land of the people called “Waray” which means “nothing” in English but are brave warriors in heart.

When YWAM reached the shore of Samar, the Lord used this organization in transforming the lives of the Samariños. For the past 18 years, many of the young people have been sent to school through the Student Sponsorship Ministry (SSM) and being discipled through God’s Word. Majority of them are now professionals and in missions. The wrong mindsets have been renewed as these young Samariños started to believe that their true identity is in God. Through this program, family conditions improved as many of them are now having stable income.

Furthermore, Ate Bebing took the courage to challenge the body of Christ in Calbayog city to intercede. Through her initiative, intercessors in the city were awakened.

Through the years, the ministries of YWAM continue to expand to the different towns and cities in the island of Samar.

When Ate Bebing and her team stepped into the island of Samar 18 years ago, they have been praying for a property. A land where they can build facilities that can accommodate schools, visiting teams, and an area to farm to generate funds.

After Ate Bing’s death, the Lord answered our prayers in a way that we did not anticipate. He provided a place which we believe that is suitable for our ministries in the future. We were able to find a 995 sq. meter house and lot amounting to Php 2,000,000.00 (40,000 USD).

We praise God for providing Php 1,500,000.00 for the property. However, as of now, we are continually praying for the remaining amount for us to finalize the purchase. We need Php500,000.00 (10,000 USD) for the property plus around Php300,000.00 (6,000 USD) for the documentation process including the transfer of title.

Would you consider giving to this need? Any amount will be highly appreciated.

Hope Village — Project Hope

Hope Village — Project Hope

Restoring hope to 150 families who lost their homes in the super typhoon that ripped through the central part of the Philippines November 8, 2013. The storm, locally called YOLANDA and internationally known as Hai-yan, brought major devastation and significant loss of life.

Beyond the relief efforts and in partnership with the Bogo City governments ‘adopt-a-barangay-project’ Youth with a Mission Philippines has pledged with God to help provide housing for 150 families at a 2.2 hectares re-location site donated by the local government.

https://youtu.be/zBz2VRFsvns
We are presently close to completion of phase 1 of our project and need your help as we finish the first 10 duplexes.
Should the Lord lead you to give at this time you will be joining with us in providing homes and a promising future for the first 20 beneficiaries families.

Our vision is to build not just houses but lives and a whole community that learns to love God, love their neighbor and who makes a positive impact in the world.

Our mobile brick machine purchased from a company in South Africa for $26,000 has given us the technology to engage the beneficiary families in the process of building and brick production for livelihood. Each Duplex costs approximately P350, 000 pesos (about $7,500 US. at the present exchange rate) and the structures are with potential for an extra loft providing an additional 14 sq.m. for each family. The houses are strong, fire resistant, and cool and won’t blow down in the next typhoon.

Each beneficiary’s family pledges 500 hours of volunteer labor in brick production as one of the conditions to qualify as recipients of the house. They also attend a Saturday morning seminar where they are learning about God’s love and growing in their faith.

Our vision is to build a whole community that loves God, loves their neighbors and makes a positive impact in the world.

Please pray about what you can do to help give renewed hope to families who lost everything. You can make a difference right now in a big or small way. Partner with us and your giving can bring a lasting future of hope filled living!

Youth With A Mission is an international, interdenominational missions organization whose main focus is to know God and make him known. Every YWAM location embraces our three-prong approach of evangelism, training and mercy ministries. YWAM’s thrust is to take the Gospel to the every’s and all’s of the Great Commission in partnership with the Body of Christ and in obedience to Christ’s command to reach and disciple all nations.

YWAM started in 1960 after its founder Loren Cunnigham saw a vision of waves at the age of 21, here is his testimony, “Suddenly I was looking at a map of the world, only the map was alive and moving! I could see all the continents, and waves were crashing onto their shores. Each wave went onto a continent, then receded, then came up further until it covered the continent completely. The waves become young people–kids my age and even younger–covering all the continents of the globe. They were talking to people on street corners and outside bars. They were going from house to house and preaching the Gospel. They came from everywhere and went everywhere, caring for people. Then just as suddenly as it had come the scene was gone.”

Today that vision is a reality with 1,100 YWAM training locations in over 180 countries of the world. YWAM also has over 18,000 full time volunteer staff from over 130 countries and has literally gone to every nation of earth.

YWAM’s waves hit the shores of the Philippines in 1971 and has continued to grow in its impact to this day. Now with over 42 locations and almost 300 volunteer staff Nation-wide, YWAM is touching the lives of Filipinos with the Good News of Jesus Christ.

On November 8, 2013 the strongest typhoon to ever make landfall hit the central part of the Philippines affecting 4 provinces, 10,436 barangays in 575 municipalities. Typhoon Yolanda internationally known as Hai-yan with winds of 235 kph and gusts of 275 kph ripped off roofs, collapsed buildings, shattered windows, destroyed livelihood and reeked havoc.

In the aftermath, US Aid reported 16 million people affected, 6,300 plus deaths, 4.1 million people displaced, 1.1 million houses damaged or destroyed and 5.9 million people without jobs.

YWAM Philippines responded just days after the storm smashed into Tacloban City. Teams were dispatched to help with removing bodies, relief work, rebuilding and listening to broken hearts while speaking God’s love to the grief stricken locals. Teams initially responded to 9 locations with tag teams saturating the areas of devastation. It became clear that the Lord was directing YWAM Philippines to focus on long term rebuilding by establishing permanent locations in key cities throughout the affected area.

The 3rd annual National Leadership Consultation was a great blessing to all. Over 70 leaders from all over YWAM Philippines converged in Talisay for 4 days of engaging worship, inspirational teachings, meaningful fellowship and great food.

Of course everyone was excited for the raffle but no one was disappointed with what they received from the Lord. Here are some feedback from some of the leaders who attended.

” This has been such a great week for me. It has been inspiring to come together with so many great people. The session on being still at the feet of Jesus was precious to me. I am certainly committed to practice that. God is drawing me into a deeper relationship with Him.” – Morten Olesen, YWAM Baguio

“My highlight was the teaching of Dave Shields on Business without Devotion. It really showed my heart and I received healing from secret hurts. I thank God for His freedom!” – Joel Hapa, YWAM Cebu

“The consultation was very refreshing. It was good to have times of worship, sharing of hearts, reminders, prayer updates, and fellowship. It was great seeing younger leaders in attendance and enjoying the hospitality of YWAM Cebu.” – Jermane Cabey, YWAM Davao

“This week was a very powerful week for me. A time to get to know God more, know myself, others and the leadership that God has called me to do. Going deeper into His presence is the main key to having him move in this mission. By just knowing the love of God and moving into it, it will bring impact to the people around me.” – Cristina Viado, YWAM Davao

“I’m so blessed for every session we had for the Lord met me personally and ministered to me through the teachings, worship and prayer times. I feel refreshed and strengthened.” – Nola Joy Anza, YWAM King’s Kids

“To be honest, I have been empowered and encouraged. It’s something different from the past leader’s meetings. Not that the past meetings were less spiritual, but this time I really really enjoyed. God is awesome!” – Marlon Pitas, YWAM Urban Ministries Baguio

“When I was seemingly at my lowest point and feeling burnt out, God really refreshed me, refilled me and rebuilt me. I was so blessed to be here.” – Michael Casey, YWAM Nehemiah House, Cagayan

“There is variety in our schedules and the topics were really timely and very practical. It was really easy to understand and apply. The lovefeast and raffle was really fun.” – Jesamin Gurapo, YWAM Samar

“Every time I attend a consultation I always get refreshed and the fellowship of our family in YWAM always encourages me. It is encouraging to see the big picture rather than your situation and the burden of the ministry. It was great!” – Jayson Tan, YWAM Cagayan

“One of my highlights was the worship sessions because they left room for the Holy Spirit to move as well as times to listen and respond to Him. There were powerful times where I sensed the Father’s presence and the joy of the Lord.” – Heidi, YWAM Palawan

The only drawback to our amazing time together was a flu bug that afflicted many of the leaders. Please pray for their recovery! See you all next year! Maybe this time we will be able to raffle off a real car :p HAHAHA

From A Distance

From A Distance

In my daily readings in the New Testament I found myself on holy ground this last week around the cross of Jesus. One particular Scripture, and only a part of the verse struck me as I was reading. “But Peter followed him at a distance,” (Matt.26:58) I wrote in my journal, “All our troubles begin when we follow Jesus at a distance, when we draw back in self-preservation and think about saving our own lives rather than laying down our lives for Him.”
My present concern for all of us; “Are we following Jesus from a distance?” If we are following from a distance then we like Peter are just a step away from denying Him. Take time to search your heart and get back on track with loving Him with your whole heart. Close the distance between you and Him and make loving Jesus your singular goal and passion! Remember what we covenanted together during our 50-year celebration of YWAM International.

1. To love the Lord my God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love my neighbor as myself (Mark 12:30-21)

2. To seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness above every concern for my own life and future (Matthew 6:25-34)

3. To serve others for no greater reason than my love for God (John 21:15-17)

4. To take up my cross and follow Jesus wherever He leads me (Mark 8:34-35)

5. To do everything I can possibly do through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in me to fulfill the Great Commission in this generation (Mark 16:15)

I covenant before God – together with my brothers and sisters – to make these my priorities until “the earth is fulled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea” (Habbakuk 2:14)
