FAMILY MINISTRIES PHILIPPINES
May-October 2015

HIGHLIGHT:
RELATIONSHIP ENRICHMENT WORKSHOP

CALAPAN

Family Ministries has just concluded its Relationship Enrichment Workshop (REW) for the young leaders of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro held on September 24-26, 2015. This is the first time one of our workshops was sponsored by a city government with the City Mayor gracing the event. This REW was originally proposed to be held on May 2015 but was cancelled because there were limitations with working with the local government. Last July, we were contacted again by the city government’s representative to push through with the workshop for September 2015. We are pleased to inform you that there are 17 graduates of the REW Calapan. There are also talks in the making to train these graduates to become facilitators of the REW.

YWAM ANTIPOLO DTS

Family Ministries has gotten invitation to present the REW to the students of YWAM Antipolo October 2015 DTS. This will be held on October 26-29, 2015. The classroom will have the workshop format. Each student will have their participant manuals and will join in the different activities involved in the workshop. Although often taught in Family Ministry Schools, this REW will be the first time it is incorporated in the DTS in the Philippines.

YWAM BALUT COLLEGE MINISTRY

On October 30-November 1, 2015, 50 college students from Tondo will come up to YWAM Baguio Training Center to hold a retreat. The students will participate in the REW to further strengthen their relationships with others.

REW is a course for singles under the Relationship Enrichment by Applying Preventative Principles (REAPP) which is done in many parts of the world. Further, this is a credited Level I course of the University of the Nations (UoN). To know more, visit www.reapp.org.

THE MARRIAGE COURSE

This is an eight session course open for any couple who would like to invest in strengthening their relationship. Set in a romantic atmosphere and served with fantastic desserts for two, the couple joins others listening to Nicky and Sila Lee’s practical talk on relationships. There is no group work, hence all discussions are between the couples. This course will run in YWAM Baguio Training Center from October 7- December 2, 2015. There are 8 couples from different parts of Baguio participating in this course.

TMC E-Invite

This is a course under the Relationship Central. To know more, visit www.relationshipcentral.org.

NEW INITIATIVE:
PRE-MARRIAGE COUNSELLING

A new ministry that has been opened for Family Ministries is the Pre-Marriage Counselling (PMC) of the City Government of Baguio. After providing a proposal to the City Health Office, they welcomed us and said that for some time, they have been looking a faith based teaching for their PMC. They offered it first to a Catholic Parish Priest but was turned down. Just at the right timing, we came in and offered our services. We were given 2 slots per week to share about Communication and Conflict Resolution to couples who are applying for a marriage license. Family Ministries started the PMC last September 3, 2015. The average number of couples we were able to reach out to is 22 couples per week. Imagine reaching 2000-3000 people every year through this initiative. God is indeed good!

PRAYER POINTS:

  1. More couples to be on staff for Family Ministries- there is a lot of harvest out there but we are just few at the moment.
  2. Transformed lives for the participants of the REW, TMC and PMC.
  3. More couples in YWAM with the heart for Family Ministries take advantage of the openings at their local governments.
  4. Wisdom as we prepare for the Family Ministries Asia Forum that will be held in the Philippines on June 2016.
  5. Open doors to introduce Marriage Week in the Philippines on February 2016.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED:

ATC

Purchased YWAM property in Tacloban

Ministry Highlights

Benefit Dinner

ATC1

On August 8 a benefit dinner was held at YWAM ATC for the new operating location in Tacloban, Leyte. Our goal was to raise funds towards paying off the remaining balance of the house in Imelda Village. We hosted several guest artists including Lou Chingching, Rachel Pranoto, Nesta Ip, Jeffery “Part” Cruz and crew, and other local groups. It was attended by over 200 people and our final amount was 119,000 pesos and a single gift of 300,000 given towards the property. We are especially grateful for the people who prepared the food and all the artists and crew who gave of their time and talents towards this endeavor.

Staff Christmas Party

ATC2

Over the last year or so we’ve seen staff rise up and move on to other places. Sad to say we haven’t seen many new staff came in for a while. Our work in Tacloban has also taken from us temporarily so that the base with just one, DTS, seemed rather quiet. Then, just before Christmas our outreach teams returned, both the Foundations for Counseling Ministry and the July DTS. They came in a few days before their graduation and the 2014 Christmas party. On the big day the dining room was filled up, where we enjoyed a celebratory feast, listened to testimonies, watched dramas, dances and special numbers. Friends and parents were in attendance enjoying the visual presentations and offerings. The latest school was about to be commissioned and sent out on their field experience. The event captures so well the comings & goings at ATC.

It’s always difficult trimming the program because this is a great opportunity to lift up the name of the Lord and give Him the glory, praise the base staff and thank everyone for everything. Starting at 5 and going on til 9:30pm was a long time but we all had a great time.

Community Christmas Party

The staff had been putting things together, making plans, gathering the finances, cramming the agenda, planning the food, the presents , the games in the Francisville Homeowners Association basketball court for the annual Christmas children’s ministry party. This is a major relationship celebration, money coming from all over the world to make it happen. Come the day in they came dressed in team colors for easy identification. The October DTS were marshalling, helping, and containing, over 200 children from 3 years old and upwards from 3 different areas. Not much different from Kamias winning the singing competition. They were young, enthusiastic and so full of joy and life. They were surprised & delighted to win. In a couple of hours it was over for another year and we were cleaning up. The children loved being together in the name of Jesus. Was it worth it? Well we’re already making plans for next year.

Ministry Highlights

Chronological Bible Core Course – January 15, 2016

rsz_cbcc

The second Batch of the School Chronological Bible Core Course (CBCC) was a success with 5 students graduating. We thank God for the opportunity that he gave us as a team for CBCC. Each and every one of us were grateful of His faithfulness in providing everything that we needed. Chronological Bible Core Course is a short version of SBS, this was pioneered by Cliff and Amaris Davies from YWAM Montana and YWAM L.A. We found that this is a perfect course for Missionaries and Lay man who want to know and learn about the Bible for 3 months. We have an upcoming school on the 15th of January for those looking to expand their knowledge of the Word of God.

After Care Ministry for Girls

rsz_cbcc1

We pioneered the After Care Ministry for Girls who don’t have a home or a family to go back to. The two girls in the picture have been with us for more than a year and just graduated from Elementary.

Children’s Ministry

rsz_cbcc2

Around 50 children are joining our Bible Study every Saturday. From May 13 to 15, 2015 we conducted a Daily Vacation Bible School for the children. We saw more than 50 children from the neighbourhood join in from the ages of 5 to 16 years old. It was amazing to see how the kids and the parents responded the Gospel. We thank God for providing the materials and needs of the DVBS.

Testimony

rsz_1rsz_cbcc6 Cathy Jane L. Dumanlag, CBCC Student

Before, I knew that there is a “God” but I didn’t know who He really is in my  life. But the time that I really got to know Him was during my CBCC school.  That was God’s instrument in allowing me to know Him deeper. It made a big  impact in my life towards God in many ways. Before I became a Christian  and learned how to read and appreciate the Bible, I used to worship idols. To  the extent that I hated the word “God Bless” or anything that comes from the  bible or the word of God and neglected the things that were more important.  And that was the most stupid thing I’ve ever done and I regret that I did that.  But after the school, it made me realize that I was so wrong and I should fear  the Lord and make him the top priority in my life. So as of now, God is really  my strength and I am now more faithful to Him and I am ready to take my next step in knowing God more. And I am hoping that I can pursue my DTS soon by the grace of God.

Prayer Points:

  • More students and staff for the upcoming Chronological Biblical Core Course (CBCC) starting on January 15, 2016
  • Finances for the continuation of the Base in Bukidnon
  • Short term teams to come and visit in order to help us with our existing ministries

How to Get Involved:
